DSIP (Delta-Sleep-Inducing Peptide) is an amphiphilic nonapeptide first identified in 1977 from cerebral venous blood of rabbits during induced sleep. Note: this is the same peptide as 'Delta-sleep-inducing peptide' (id: 35) in this dataset.
Subcutaneous injection: typically 100-300 mcg administered in the evening before sleep. Clinical research used slow IV infusions at 25 nmol/kg. Very short half-life in vitro (~15 minutes) due to aminopeptidase degradation. Can cross the blood-brain barrier and is absorbed from the gut without denaturation.
Mechanisms of Action
5Benefits
4Improved sleep quality
SleepPromotes delta-wave (deep) sleep and may help normalize disturbed sleep patterns in insomniacs. Double-blind studies showed effects on chronic insomnia.
Stress reduction
HormonalNormalizes cortisol and stress response, potentially reducing anxiety and stress-related sleep disruption.
Pain modulation
RecoverySome research suggests analgesic properties, possibly through opioid receptor interaction.
Hormonal regulation
HormonalMay help normalize LH and GH secretion patterns, with potential downstream metabolic and recovery benefits.
