Epitalon (also spelled Epithalon) is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) based on the natural peptide epithalamin, which is extracted from the pineal gland. It was developed by the Russian gerontologist Professor Vladimir Khavinson at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology.
Subcutaneous or intramuscular injection: typically 5-10 mg/day for 10-20 consecutive days, repeated once or twice per year. Common protocols include 5 mg daily for 20 days or 10 mg daily for 10 days, with 4-6 month off-cycle periods. Some intermittent protocols use 10 mg on days 1, 5, 9, 13, and 17. Injection sites should be rotated (abdomen, thighs, upper arms).
Mechanisms of Action
4Benefits
6Telomere lengthening
LongevitySignificantly increased telomere lengths in blood cells of patients aged 60-65 and 75-80 in human clinical studies.
Lifespan extension
LongevityExtended lifespan in mice and rats in animal studies without inducing tumor growth.
Tumor and metastasis reduction
ImmuneReduced spontaneous tumors and metastases in mouse models, showing oncostatic and anti-metastatic properties.
Melatonin normalization
SleepRestored melatonin secretion in aged monkeys and humans, potentially improving circadian rhythm and sleep quality.
Retinal protection
LongevityShowed positive clinical effect in 90% of retinitis pigmentosa patients in human studies.
Antioxidant defense enhancement
LongevityIncreased key antioxidant enzyme activities (SOD, GPx, GST) in aging rat models, reducing oxidative damage.
